With 45,000 square meters (480,000 square feet) the facility will be largest vertical farm in the world, according to the company.
The facility will be 36 meters (118 feet) high and have a production capacity of 200,000 tonnes of ingredients per year. It should be operational at the end of 2021.
The company’s insects are now used as ingredients for pet nutrition and aquaculture feed, as well as fertilizer. But it’s also looking at entering the human food space in the future.
Ynsect has raised around €330 million ($400 million) to date.
