Around 5.9 mio dogs and 7.9 mio cats live in 35 per cent (dogs) and 38 per cent (cats) of Canadian households. These are the current figures given in the Canada Pet Wellness Report by GFK Global Study.
Last year, Canadians spent nearly 10 bn Canadian dollars (approx. 6.8 bn euros) on their pets, as compared with 7.2 bn Canadian dollars (approx. 5.1 bn euros) in 2015.
The market research company Mordor Intelligence expects Canada's pet food market to grow by 4.3 per cent by 2025. This will benefit primarily the roughly 2 100 pet and pet supplies stores. Over 750 of these are located in the federal state of Ontario, according to a statistical survey.
