Saint Bernard, a French manufacturer of pet food and treats along with hygiene and pet care products, has been awarded the PME+ label. The label recognises small companies that put social and ecological issues at the centre of their strategy.
Managing director Damien Thomas reports that he has recently appointed two product managers trained in eco design, who will integrate environmental aspects into the company's product development. In addition, 97 per cent of staff have open-ended contracts. The company has also instigated measures aimed at cutting industrial waste by 25 per cent within a year. It aims to reduce waste by 75 per cent within three years.
Saint Bernard, which was established in 1954, is part of the Zolux Group and employs more than 40 staff. Its products are sold in supermarkets.
