Nestlé aims to make its pet food factory in Hungary the biggest in Europe, as revealed by the CEO of the Swiss food conglomerate. Nestlé is investing 20 bn Hungarian forints (approx. € 64 mio) in expanding the plant it acquired in 1998 in the town of Bük, 100 km south of Vienna. The site was expanded to over 50 000 m2 four years ago.
Now another 5 000 m2 production hall is to be built that will provide space for two more production lines. Following the expansion, the plant will employ roughly 1 000 people. Around 200 000 t of pet food is to be manufactured annually in Bük, according to media reports. 40 per cent of the products manufactured are destined for the markets in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
