Eheim and the Kamihata Fish Group (Hikari) have concluded a cooperation agreement.
The Kamihata Fish Group will distribute Eheim products exclusively in Japan from the start of next year and the Eheim subsidiary in Japan will close at the same time. Extending their cooperation to other areas in the future was not ruled out by either company. Both firms are family-owned and active in the premium segment, and their corporate cultures show many similarities.
With its Hikari brand the Kamihata Fish Group is the clear market leader in the Japanese market with a share of 46 per cent. The corporate group is also prominent in the import and export of ornamental and pond fish in Japan and employs 285 people.
Eheim also introduced new distribution partners for Indonesia and Vietnam. Although Europe currently accounts for 75 per cent of Eheim’s sales, it is focusing on growth in other parts of the world in the next few years. It nevertheless intends to consolidate its market position in Europe further too.
