The UK store chain Jollyes has reported that sales in fiscal 2023 (up to 29 May 2023) increased by 33 per cent to GBP 115 mio (previous year: GBP 87 mio). Sales on a comparable store area increased by 17 per cent across the year, thus twice as much as the market, which grew by eight per cent, according to the company. 60 per cent of the like-for-like increase was also attributable to transaction growth and not inflation.
Jollyes currently has 90 stores across the UK, having opened 13 new stores during the financial year. Another ten branches are to be added by the end of 2023. Scheduled new openings in the next few months include Belfast Boucher Road (July), Swindon (July), Merthyr Tydfil (August), Harrogate (September) and Swadlincote (November). There are also plans to open at least five more new stores in this calendar year in Central Scotland, Northern Ireland, Berkshire, Kent and Somerset. This will put Jollyes well on the way to achieving its target of 100 stores earlier than envisaged.
During the financial year, Jollyes has taken on more than 160 new staff across the UK. Its 1 000th employee was appointed in April at its new branch in Christchurch.
As well as unveiling a new brand image, the company will invest GBP 1 million in the current financial year in expanding the offering of veterinary practices, grooming salons and other services for pets in its stores. The number of branches with a veterinary clinic is to be doubled by summer 2024.
