Mars Petcare has announced plans to expand its manufacturing facility in Fort Smith, Arkansas (USA), with an investment of 145 mio dollars. The expansion is expected to create more than 120 new jobs and should be completed by 2022. Mars Petcare plans to add more than 200 000 square feet and two additional production lines, increasing production capacity by more than 40 per cent.
The expansion is being justified by increased demand for wet pet food triggered by the coronavirus pandemic, according to a company statement. The Fort Smith plant is one of Mars Petcare's 14 locations in the US and a major production site for wet pet food in trays under the Sheba, Cesar, Iams and Nutro brands.
