In April 2017, the PetSmart pet store chain acquired online retailer Chewy. Now the two companies are to part ways again, according to the online industry magazine Petfood Industry News. It reports that PetSmart intends to sell, directly or indirectly, all the ordinary shares that PetSmart currently holds in Chewy. Once it has disposed of all its shares, Chewy will cease to be a subsidiary of PetSmart.
The magazine report speculates that, as separate companies, Chewy and PetSmart may be better equipped to manage the changing needs and demands of pet owners during the coronavirus pandemic.
