New OFI secretary general

Roberto Hensen has been appointed secretary general of Ornamental Fish International (OFI) by the executive board of the association. The appointment was necessary after the tragic loss of the previous OFI secretary general and administrator Alex and Edith Ploeg, who were passengers on the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 that came down in Ukraine on 17 July.

Roberto Hensen has been Alex Ploeg's assistant since 2006 and has been involved in all the issues that OFI deals with. In his professional career he has managed aquaculture farms of fish and shrimp and has bred ornamental fish, reptiles and birds. His previous full-time job was as head of the department of agriculture, livestock, fisheries and nature on the island of St Eustatius.
