Pets at Home acquires Vets4Pets

Apr 14, 2013

The biggest pet store chain in the United Kingdom, Pets at Home, has acquired the veterinary group Vets4Pets for around £40 mio. The acquisition will add a further 93 outlets to the retailer’s existing 116 veterinary practices, which operate in store under the Companion Care brand.

Pets at Home operates 346 stores nationwide at the moment. “In the future, the opportunity for Pets at Home is to have more vet and potential vet locations than store locations,” says chief executive Nick Wood. “Vets4Pets is highly complementary to Companion Care and is an excellent strategic fit for Pets at Home.” Companion Care was founded in 2001 and operates on a joint venture basis with vets, with 1200 staff. Vets4Pets’ branches employ about 900 staff. Its operational centre will remain in the East Midlands.
