Systeme U takes over 46 Carrefour stores

Systeme U, the French chain of independent super and hypermarkets, adds under its banner the 46 Carrefour stores owned by Coop Atlantique, or €697 million ($894 million) extra sales, putting the total TO at €16 billion ($20.5 billion). This takeover propels U to the fourth rank amongst French grocers. The current ranking, market share wise, still gives Carrefour as N¡ã1 (19%), followed by Leclerc (18.3%), Intermarche (12.3%) and Systeme U (which aims 12% in 2015).
